Organized by Matt Moscato, the NFWOA held a spring wrestling officials clinic on April 27, 2025 at the Akron Wrestling Club. The association welcomed National Wrestling Hall of Fame official Fredrick Freeney to present “Are you a Duck?”, a seminar on proper wrestling officiating mechanics. Fred always tells officials to be a duck. “If you walk like a duck, and quack like a duck, and look like a duck, people will naturally think you are a duck. It’s the same with being a referee.” Mr. Feeney presented his copywriten program which covers all aspects of mechanics from the time an official arrives on site until the conclusion of wrestling. Points of emphasis included proper signaling, proper positioning, anticipating moves, spaghetti wrestling, and resolving conflict. Other presenters included Dan Hanley who gave his perspective on stalling and Scott Wessel who provided his interpretations from a coaches point of view. A special thanks was offered to coach Dan Klonowski along with his two volunteer wrestlers who hosted the event.
