March 2011 Letter on Changes

NFWOA              Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Association

March 21, 2011

Dear Coach:

For those of you who could make it, thanks for participating in the 2011 NFWOA Tournament.  Certainly, the wrestling at the event was very strong this year, and we’re glad you all were able to get great competition for your teams.  Just as is done in every other year, we are implementing several changes that should improve the tournament.  This past tournament was different, however, in that we faced several significant challenges.  To address those challenges, we are looking to make some key changes in 2012.  First, we will only accept 31 full teams (in 2011, we accepted 38 full teams).  Second, we will start earlier on Friday and Saturday.  This should allow us to finish around 9 PM Friday and 8 PM Saturday (In 2011 we finished around 10 PM both nights).  Third, the weigh-ins and skin-checks will only be one hour long, giving us more opportunity to start on time.  We will be sending invitations in mid-September, and look forward to providing a new-and-improved tournament in 2012.

Yours in Wrestling,

Brian Dowdall

NFWOA              Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Association

September 6, 2011

Dear Coach:

As we prepare for another exciting season of high school wrestling, the Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Association is once again busy making plans for our annual wrestling tournament.

Please accept this letter as your official invitation to be one of the teams chosen to participate in the NFWOA Tournament on January 6th and 7th, 2012 at Niagara County Community College.

Each team may enter up to 15 wrestlers, with multiple entrants allowed in each weight class.

Once again, we will be limiting the number of teams invited to participate in the tournament.  It is essential that you respond quickly to this letter. Only the first 31 teams to accept this invitation will be accepted into the tournament.  The entry fee is $270 per team, due by January 6, 2012.  There will be a $40 late charge for teams who have not paid before the first round of wrestling.   The check can be mailed to:

NFWOA

747 Ohio St

N Tonawanda, NY 14120

Only those teams officially invited to the 2012 tournament will be allowed to attend.  Attendance in past years does not guarantee a spot in the upcoming tournament.  You can reserve your spot in the tournament by e-mailing Brian Dowdall at nfwoatour@roadrunner.com.

For teams that will be traveling, there will likely be group rates available at the Comfort Inn in Niagara Falls, New York.  The drive from the hotel to the college is approximately 20 minutes.  In December, you will receive information on how to obtain the group rates.

Please note that all pertinent information on the tournament will be found at www.nfwoa.org.  Furthermore, all correspondence is to be conducted via www.nfwoa.org and nfwoatour@roadrunner.com.  If you are no longer the coach, please forward this e-mail to the new coach.  Each team must submit their response to nfwoatour@roadrunner.com as soon as possible, since we will only accept the first 31 teams.  If your team accepts this invitation, please also consider this letter your payment invoice.

 Yours in Wrestling,

  Brian Dowdall

2012 Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Tournament

Final letter January 5, 2012

2012 Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Tournament

To:                     Wrestling Coaches and Athletic Directors

From:                     NFWOA Tournament Committee

Re:               2012 Tournament

The following information will help you prepare for the NFWOA Wrestling Tournament to be held at Niagara County Community College (NCCC - www.niagaracc.suny.edu) January 6th and 7th, 2012.

        1.        We will be using a double elimination bracket, guaranteeing each wrestler a minimum of two matches.  Each team may enter up to 15 wrestlers, with multiple entrants allowed in each weight class.

2.        The registration fee is $270 per team.  Please send a check as soon as possible.  There will be a $40 late charge for any teams who haven’t paid before the first round of wrestling. Please consider the invitation sent to you in September to be the invoice.  Please mail checks to:

                                NFWOA

                                747 Ohio Street

                                North Tonawanda, NY 14120

3.        Teams have the opportunity to advertise in the tournament program which will be available for sale at the tournament. Please see “2012 NFWOA Tourney Advertising - Teams.doc” for further information.

4.        A seeding committee will be selected and will do all seeding on January 3, 2012.  In late December, you will receive “2012 NFWOA Tourney Roster.xls”.  It is essential that all coaches fill out the blue and red sections of “2012 NFWOA Tourney Roster.xls” and return it via e-mail to nfwoatour@roadrunner.com by January 2, 2012.  “2012 NFWOA Tourney Roster.xls” will be e-mailed to each coach, but you will also be able to download it from http://nfwoa.org/.  Only wrestlers with a winning record are eligible for seeding.  Seeds will be qualitatively determined using the following criteria:

Seeding Committee judgment

The most recent Section VI rankings

2011 - 2012 season head-to-head competition

2011 state tournament place finish

2011 NFWOA Tournament place finish

2011 - 2012 season record

All unseeded wrestlers will be placed by random draw.  Any team that does not return roster information will have all wrestlers placed by random draw.  Coaches are allowed to make changes to their line-up at weigh-ins.  If a seeded wrestler enters a different weight class, he will be unseeded.  In this case, all wrestlers seeded below the scratched wrestler will be moved up accordingly.
